Jess Cole is a writer and teacher living in Boston with her son. Her work — fiction, poetry, and essays — keeps circling the same two questions: what a place does to the people who live in it, and what those people carry with them when they leave.
She studied International Relations and French at Boston University, earned an M.A. in English at UC Davis, and wrote a novel as her doctoral dissertation at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Along the way she has published articles, book chapters, short fiction, and Pushcart-nominated poems.
Teaching
Jess has taught college writing for years, including as writer-in-residence and visiting professor at the University of Graz in Austria and at the ProArts colleges in Boston. She now teaches small generative workshops — essays, fiction, and the stories of place — and works as a book coach at Bloomsday Literary, helping writers carry a manuscript from first draft to finished book.
