The nonfiction runs alongside the creative work: articles and book chapters on writing pedagogy, on teaching college writing to students who arrive with more languages than confidence, and on what it means to write about a place as a guest in it — a question sharpened by two years teaching in Graz, Austria.
The essays are also where the teaching and the writing talk to each other — much of what ends up in the workshops started as a problem worked out on the page here.
