Writing for the Bahala Blog

I write for the Bahala Blog, the publication of the Bahala Foundation — a Santa Monica 501(c)(3) that works to strengthen collective connection by supporting community-based initiatives.

My work there is mostly long-form profile and reportage: sitting down with the people running community gardens, book clubs, quilting circles, time banks, and mutual-aid networks around Santa Monica and greater Los Angeles, and writing about what actually makes those efforts hold together. The recurring question across the beat is a practical one — what does it take to build trust between neighbors, and what do people get back when they try?
