The Personal Essay
A generative afternoon on the essay — finding the true subject under the one you thought you were writing about. All levels welcome.
Boston, MA

Every essay has two subjects: the thing it's about, and the thing it's really about. In this three-hour workshop we read a few short essays that make that gap visible, then write into our own material with timed prompts. You'll leave with two rough starts and a way of asking your drafts what they're actually up to.
What to bring
A notebook and something to write with — or a laptop, if that's how you draft. No prior workshop experience needed, and nothing has to be shared aloud unless you want to.
